Hydrologic Conditions: Elsewhere in the Southwest, August 2015

California

Lake Oroville

Oroville Chart 082015

Lake Oroville, the primary storage reservoir for the California State Water Project, continues its downward trend ending July with 33% of its total capacity or 45% of average for that date.  The water year began with historic low levels of storage in Lake Oroville, and DWR moved 450,000 AF to San Luis Reservoir between late December and mid-January for operational purposes.  As DWR tries to rebuild storage levels in Lake Oroville, water levels still remain above the historic low, but below last year’s level, when SWP allocations were zero for most of the year. With the end of the water year quickly approaching, will DWR be able to leave the SWP allocation unchanged, despite decreasing storage levels?
