Commentary: Climate change forces us to rethink Glen Canyon Dam and its releases

Christi Wedig, executive director of the Glen Canyon Institute, notes that the high-flow experiments encouraged by the Grand Canyon Protection Act to restore the ecosystem around the Glen Canyon Dam are admirable but short-sighted. The water releases produce only temporary benefits, Wedig says. She advocates for a reconsideration of water storage practices at Lake Powell, which she believes “will continue to wreak havoc on the ecosystems of the Grand Canyon.”
